One of the two most important moments in a wedding is the bridal dance between the newly-weds at the wedding reception (with the other important moment being the bride’s entry into the church or wedding venue). Think about it - all the guests are focused squarely on the bride and groom.
It is both a scary and exciting moment for many wedding couples, which is why it is important to spend some time thinking about the song that you will be dancing to (and don’t forget to add it to your wedding checklist!).
Here are 14 weddings songs suitable for the bride and groom at the wedding reception:
1. Hero – Enrique Iglesias
If only I had a dollar every time this song was used by newly-weds at their wedding reception! Enrique managed to record the seemingly perfect wedding song that just keeps on giving!
2. Because you loved me – Celine Dion
Celine Dion’s career has been full of classy and elegant ballads. Our favourite as a wedding song is “Because You Loved Me” because of the powerful lyrics and musical arrangement.
3. I will always love you – Whitney Houston
In my husband’s opinion, Whitney Houston had the best voice of any of the modern divas. “I Will Always Love You” is a powerful ballad that opens quietly, before coming to life as Whitney lets those vocal chords roar into life – which is the perfect time to invite other guests to dance along with the bride and groom.
4. Come away with me – Norah Jones
A slow jazzy tune that is soulful and earthy. Norah has a beautiful and husky voice that sets the scene for an elegant moment of dancing between the bride and groom.
5. Endless Love – Mariah Carey and Luther Vandross
This classic, originally recorded by Lionel Ritchie and Dianna Ross, was covered by the great Luther Vandross and the incredible Mariah Carey. We prefer Luther and Mariah’s version. Whichever you choose, “Endless Love” makes for a fantastic wedding song for the bride and groom to dance to at the wedding reception.
6. At last – Etta James
“At Last” has been covered by so many artists that I have lost count. But it is as perfect a wedding song as any other. A classic, soulful jazzy tune, I imagine many a newly-wed couple has danced to “At Last” at their wedding reception.
7. Heaven - Brian Adams
Brian Adams. Love ballad. Need I say more? “Heaven” makes for a fantastic and emotional song for the bride and groom to dance to at the wedding reception.
8. Have I told you lately that I love you – Rod Stewart
Self-explanatory.
9. I just can’t stop loving you – Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson may not be an obvious choice when it comes to weddings songs for the bride and groom to dance to. However, “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” is a surprisingly emotional and tender song. The King of Pop has several versions of this song featuring different female singers accompanying him.
10. I don’t want to miss a thing – Aerosmith
You wouldn’t expect to hear a wedding song by Aerosmith. Yet they surprised by recording the ever popular “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” for the emotional movie “Armageddon“. The song is a great song for the newly-weds to dance to at the wedding reception.
11. Kiss from a rose – Seal
“Kiss From a Rose” might have been originally recorded for a terrible Batman movie, but Seal’s mature and unique voice transforms the song into a timeless love ballad that is perfect as a song to allow the bride and groom to dance at their wedding reception.
12. Always – Bon Jovi
This popular song allows singer Jon Bon Jovi to utilise his amazing vocal abilities to sing an emotion-packed song. Be careful though – the lyrics might be a bit sad for some newly-weds!
13. My girl – The Temptations
Who says that the bride and groom have to dance along to a ballad at the wedding reception? We went for a different option at our wedding and – at my husband’s stern insistence – picked “My Girl” by The Temptations as our wedding song. It is a classic song that really sets the tone for an evening of dancing and fun.
14. Isn’t she lovely – Stevie Wonder
The last song on our list might come as a surprise. Stevie Wonder has many amazing songs, but wedding songs? Yes – if you want something different! “Isn’t She Lovely” is a catchy and fun song with great rhythm that will allow the bride and groom to display some dance moves at the wedding reception.
This was by no means a complete list of weddings songs for wedding receptions. There are many other songs (which we will cover in future posts) that you can choose. Sites such as YouTube and iTunes have made it easier than ever to find wedding songs for your wedding reception, so have fun and start searching now.

So you think you want to wear a veil. But you also think you might want to wear a bridal headpiece. You might be asking yourself “can I wear a headpiece even though I’m wearing a veil?” This is actually a surprisingly common question and the simple answer is … yes!
